Health Benefits of Morning Exercise

Category : Fitness, Health

Regardless of age, exercising helps us prevent chronic diseases and maintain our cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It also helps us burn those extra calories and to keep our weight in check. Exercising also keeps different parts of our body active, making it easier to do any strenuous physical task whenever required.

Health Benefits of Morning Exercise

But there are many other benefits of exercising daily in the morning which we don’t realize. These benefits effects our mood and energy levels all through the day. Here are health benefits of morning exercise.

1. Promotes Better Sleep

Exercising in the morning necessarily demands waking up earlier to get in the time needed for the routine. Therefore, it follows that it will condition your body to sleep earlier and you develop a natural body cycle. Eventually, the quality of your sleep improves because as you expend energy at a steady rate throughout your waking hours, the body readies to shut down at night, paving the way for a good night’s sleep.

2. Sharpens the Mind

When your body wakes up, your mind follows. Exercise, even for just 20 to 30 minutes, will pump your blood as you take in more oxygen and raise your heart rate, demanding the use of more energy. As you physically condition yourself, your brain is also stimulated, thus helping improve mental activity and concentration. Generally you perform better throughout the day just by starting it with exercise or any physical activity.

3. Induces Weight Loss

When you exercise first thing in the morning, you have not eaten yet. Your body will then use up stored energy in the form of fats. The more efficient your metabolism, the more energy the body requires. Stored fat is one culprit for weight gain. By raising your metabolism, your body will be in fat-burning mode the rest of the day, a big help to controlling your weight.

The more you use energy, the more energy you should have to sustain you. A sedentary lifestyle will conserve your energy by transforming it into fats that are stored in your body. With morning exercises, you begin your day by burning fat–much like revving a machine to build up power–so you have lots of energy to sustain you as you go about your tasks, thus utilizing more fats rather than storing them.

4. Encourages Healthy Eating

A regular exercise routine in the morning changes your attitude about food. Psychologically, it becomes easier to resist temptation from foods because of the healthy mindset you develop about working out. If you eat more or if you eat the wrong kinds of foods, you will need to work out harder. Eventually, you will tend to eat better, switching to a more nutritious diet.

If experience any downtime, especially in the afternoon when your body tends to slow down after eating and having used up energy in the morning, your functional efficiency is affected. You either take a nap to recharge, get an energy boost from caffeine or turn to something unhealthy (chocolate, junk food, cigarettes) just to perk you up. However, if you start the day with physical activity that stimulates your brain to produce continuous energy, you can go about the rest of your day working steadily and productively.
